Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-05-15 Effective from: Initial public release of Knot Fit
1. Introduction
monot Inc. ("we", "our", or "us") provides the iOS application "Knot Fit" (the "App"). We handle user privacy with care. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how we use it, who we share it with, your rights, and how to contact us.
| Item | Detail |

| App name | Knot Fit |
| Provider | monot Inc. (株式会社 Monot) |
| App website | https://monot.co.jp/knotfit/ |

| Provider contact | https://monot.co.jp/contact/ |
For further provider information, please refer to the company profile page of our operating company. Our registered postal address and phone number will be disclosed promptly via the contact form above upon request, as required under Japan's Act on Specified Commercial Transactions.
2. Information We Collect
Knot Fit is designed as a personal journal for recording workouts and body measurements. As a general rule, we do not send personal data to our servers. All data is stored on the user's device or in the user's own iCloud account.
2.1 Information you enter into the App
- Workout-related information (exercises, set details, notes, etc.)
- Body-related information (body weight, body fat percentage, body measurements, etc.)
- App settings (notification preferences, theme, wallpaper, units of measurement, streak history, etc.)
Photos you embed in a Receipt (taken with the camera or chosen from your photo library) are compressed to roughly 1080px JPEG and stored on your device alongside the corresponding workout, personal-record, or streak-milestone record, so you can re-open Receipts from your history. From Settings you can turn on auto-pruning (keeps only the 100 most recent) or delete all stored Receipt photos at once.
→ This data is stored on your device (SwiftData storage) and, if you enable iCloud sync, also within your own iCloud account. It is not transmitted to our servers.
2.2 Information obtained via HealthKit
With your explicit permission, the App reads the following data from Apple HealthKit:
- Workout history (including any location data / GPS route already attached to such workouts in HealthKit)
- Body Mass
- Body Fat Percentage
- Lean Body Mass
- Sleep Analysis
The App may also write workouts and body composition data that you record to HealthKit, with your permission. The App itself does not collect GPS location through iOS Location Services.
HealthKit data is handled in compliance with Apple's HealthKit policy and is not transmitted to our servers. The accuracy of values obtained from HealthKit (body weight, body fat percentage, sleep duration, etc.) depends on the measurement device used (body composition scale, Apple Watch, etc.), and we do not warrant their medical or metrological accuracy.
2.3 Information obtained via Apple
- Purchase information (StoreKit): Whether you have an active Knot Fit Pro subscription / Lifetime purchase, purchase date, and auto-renewal status. Obtained only via Apple StoreKit and used only to determine your entitlement
- iCloud account: If you enable iCloud sync, your records are stored in your own iCloud account. We have no access to that data
2.4 Usage analytics (TelemetryDeck)
The App uses TelemetryDeck (TelemetryDeck OSS GmbH, Germany) to understand usage patterns. We send only analytics events that are not linked to you as an identifiable individual:
- App launches, screen transitions, feature usage counts (roughly aggregated)
- Paywall display and purchase completion events
- Device model, iOS version, region, language
We never send: body weight, body fat, measurements, photos, custom exercise names, notes, full names, email addresses, location, IDFA (advertising ID), date of birth, specific set weight or rep values, specific timestamps.
The analytics identifier is a hashed device-specific value managed by TelemetryDeck. We cannot identify individuals on our own.
Opt-out: You can disable analytics at any time from the App's settings screen (Privacy section).
2.5 Tracking and advertising
The App does not perform any cross-app or cross-web tracking. We do not obtain the advertising ID (IDFA). We do not use any third-party advertising network. The App Tracking Transparency (ATT) dialog is not displayed.
3. How We Collect Information
| Method | Categories |
|---|---|
| Direct user input | Workout records, body log, settings |
| Apple HealthKit (after your authorization) | Body mass, body fat, lean body mass, sleep, workouts |
| Apple StoreKit | Subscription / Lifetime entitlement state |
| Automatic (opt-out available) | TelemetryDeck anonymous events |
4. How We Use Information
| Information | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Workout records, body log | Core app functions (display records, progress charts, generate Receipt images) |
| HealthKit data | Reflect in progress charts, bidirectional sync with Apple Health |
| Purchase information | Determine Knot Fit Pro entitlement |
| Usage analytics | Improve the App, understand feature usage, detect issues |
| Notification settings | Determine when to fire local notifications |
We do not use your information beyond the purposes stated above. If we add or change purposes in the future, we will revise this Policy and notify you within the App or on our website.
5. Sharing with Third Parties
We do not share user information with third parties except in the following cases:
- When you give explicit consent (e.g., when you share a Receipt image to social media)
- When required by law (court orders, requests from law enforcement, etc.)
- Usage analytics: shared with TelemetryDeck (only events not linked to you as an identifiable individual)
We never sell or rent user data.
6. Data Storage and International Transfer
| Data | Location | iCloud Sync |
|---|---|---|
| Workout records, custom exercises, user settings | Your iOS device (SwiftData) | Included (if you enable iCloud sync, stored in your own iCloud account) |
| HealthKit data (body mass, body fat, lean body mass, sleep, workouts) | Apple HealthKit (encrypted, on-device) | Excluded (per Apple App Store Review Guideline 5.1.3(ii), we exclude HealthKit data from our iCloud sync) |
| StoreKit purchase data | Apple servers (subject to Apple's privacy policy) | — |
| Usage analytics (TelemetryDeck) | Servers within the EU (Germany) | — |
iCloud sync data is stored on iCloud servers operated by Apple, but the content resides only within your own iCloud account; we have no access to it. Apple is not our data processor; Apple processes the data under Apple's own privacy policy.
International transfers
- Usage analytics (TelemetryDeck) is processed on servers in the EU (Germany). Data of EU users is not transferred outside the EU.
- Regarding the processing of Japanese users' data on TelemetryDeck servers in the EU, the European Commission has formally recognized Japan as providing an adequate level of data protection (adequacy decision, January 2019). As a result, personal data may flow between the EU and Japan without additional safeguards.
- Data processing on Apple servers via iCloud and StoreKit is governed by Apple's privacy policy and applicable laws.
7. Retention Period
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| In-app data | Until you uninstall the App (stored on-device) |
| iCloud sync data | Until you delete it from your iCloud |
| HealthKit data | Per Apple HealthKit's policy |
| Usage analytics | Per TelemetryDeck's retention (typically 12 months) |
| Knot Fit Pro entitlement (whether you have purchased) | Until you uninstall the App (stored on-device). We do not retain per-user purchase histories |
| Tax / accounting records (sales statements, settlement records) | Apple, as the merchant of record, retains individual transaction records. We receive only aggregated settlement information from Apple, which we retain for the period required under Japanese tax-related recordkeeping laws, including the Corporation Tax Act and the Electronic Bookkeeping Act (generally 7 years). We do not retain per-user purchase histories |
8. Your Rights
You have the following rights:
- Right of access: Request disclosure of information we hold about you
- Right to rectification: Request correction of inaccurate information
- Right to erasure: Request deletion of your information
- Right to opt out: Disable usage analytics collection (configurable in-app)
- Right to withdraw consent: For consent-based processing (e.g., HealthKit), withdraw consent at any time
Because in-app data is stored on your device, you can view and delete your data at any time from the App's settings screen. To opt out of usage analytics, use the Privacy section of the App's settings screen. To withdraw HealthKit consent, go to iOS "Settings → Privacy & Security → Health".
To exercise other rights, please use the contact form linked at the top of this Policy. We will respond within 30 days as a rule. We respond to such requests free of charge as a rule; we may charge a reasonable amount equivalent to the actual costs incurred only where the same request is repeated many times in a short period or otherwise imposes an excessive burden on us.
8.1 Additional Rights for EU Residents
Users residing in the EU have, in addition to the above, the right to restriction of processing, the right to data portability (to receive your data in a machine-readable format), the right to lodge a complaint with their local data protection supervisory authority, the right to object to processing based on legitimate interest, and the right not to be subject to automated decision-making (we do not perform automated decision-making) under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). To exercise these rights, please use the contact form linked at the top of this Policy.
9. Cookies and Tracking Tools
The App is an iOS application and does not use web cookies. We do not perform any third-party tracking via SDKs.
10. Security
We take the following measures to protect your information:
- Data is stored on your device and is not sent to our servers over the network
- iCloud sync relies on the encryption and security mechanisms provided by Apple
- StoreKit / HealthKit rely on Apple's security mechanisms
- Communication with TelemetryDeck is encrypted with HTTPS (TLS 1.3)
However, no method of internet transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure.
11. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13 (COPPA) or children under 16 (GDPR). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child under the relevant age has used the App, please use the contact form linked at the top of this Policy.
12. Changes to this Policy
This Policy may be updated to reflect changes in law or new features in the App. For material changes, we will provide notice within the App or on our website at least 30 days in advance. The Last updated date is shown at the top of this Policy.

14. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
This Policy is governed by the laws of Japan. Any dispute arising out of this Policy shall be submitted to the Tokyo District Court as the court of exclusive jurisdiction of first instance. Note, however, that mandatory provisions of the GDPR and other applicable laws may still apply to users residing in the EU or other jurisdictions; this Article does not exclude their application.
